A surf trip on a Catamaran in the West Indies... Yes thank you !

08 March 2019 | French West Indies

The Caribbean or West Indies, Guadeloupe & Martinique have become in 2019 the major destinations for French people's holidays... And by chance there are also good waves and magical spots ! The classic formula is to go to a surf camp, rent a car and surf on two or three spots... It's very nice but we discovered a nugget: the surf boat trip on a catamaran, in search of the most beautiful waves of the Caribbean... To tell you about it, we asked the crew to present us their project and thus start to make us dream a little: sunset on the trampoline of the catamaran to look at a sunset, a ti'punch in the hand after a big surfing session in a turquoise water at 28 °C (Do you have the image in your head?)

Hi Crew! So what is this project?

Hello everyone, this is Captains Ben & Mathilda ! We are two young swiss people who are passionate about surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing, in short, any device that allows you to glide on the water and we're going to tell you a bit about our new project.

We've been together for 5 years now, wandering around the planet to make a living from our passions. Ben spent the last 6 winters in Panama working as a surf guide in a camp based in the Chiriqui golf course, and his summers working as a wakeboard/wakesurf teacher on our beloved lake Leman. He would have left sooner, but unfortunately for him he found a young girl (me) who hadn't finished her studies in Switzerland yet, so he agreed to stay a bit longer in his native land, with the promise of going surfing indefinitely once he finished university.

We were lucky enough to live for 9 months in Mexico as part of my hotel management studies, in Baja California, a paradise of long tubular straights like Scorpion Bay, and it just convinced us even more that we had to find a way to combine work and pleasure.

After finishing my bachelor's degree last February, a sign of destiny presented itself to us: an acquaintance, owner of a large cruising catamaran, offered us to take care of his boat and, in exchange, to be able to do whatever we wanted with it. Our dream of setting up our own surf camp was perhaps not so far away...

And what better way to discover deserted spots than directly from the sea? That's how our Soleil Explorer project came about!

What is Soleil Explorer?

Soleil Explorer is a wonderful way to share. We would like to give people the opportunity to explore nature and new countries through water sports. We welcome you aboard the magnificent Lagoon 57 catamaran which has been entrusted to us (thanks again to the owner!) and which we look after, for sporting cruises far from the crowds. There will be all the necessary equipment on board for everyone to have fun and enjoy the incredible setting. Surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, stand up paddle, everyone will find something to suit them. Of course the goal is also to relax and discover the colors of the country by going off the beaten track. So we organize excursions and guide you to the best typical restaurant in the area.

Is there a roadmap, a road book planned for the West Indies?

Yes, we are going on a tour between Martinique, Saint Lucia and Guadeloupe.

Martinique is a great destination to go surfing.

You will also have the opportunity to discover the beauty and exclusivity of the waves of Saint Lucia and to explore the most remote spots of Guadeloupe.

What if there is no wave? Don't worry, Soleil Explorer offers you the opportunity to try other water sports such as windsurfing, kitesurfing or stand up paddle! You can also discover the oases during excursions.

And why would we choose you?

Ben is an ISA certified surf instructor and has worked as a surf guide for the past 6 years. He is also trained as a professional skipper and is in the process of gaining his commercial accreditation in Spain with the Royal Yachting Association.

I am a graduate of the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne and I have been a windsurfing and stand up paddle instructor since 2010. I also passed my Day Skipper license (and I love cooking good food).

On top of that, we're really nice.

We hope to welcome you soon on board to surf deserted spots and live a great maritime adventure.
